The UCL and Hot List Introduction See This Tutorial Segment

The Unified Call List feature is also known as the UCL. From the CPS, the Unified Call List feature, or UCL, is accessed from the Call List Configuration node. The Unified Call List feature is the central location that allows you to create Contact information for every type of radio call. The UCL’s call types include Conventional Select Calls and Call Alerts, Trunking Private Calls and Pages, and even Phone.

The UCL allows you to create Contacts. Note that for each Contact that is created, multiple ASTRO 25 Trunking IDs, or multiple Type II Trunking IDs, or Multiple ASTRO Conventional IDs or even Multiple MDC Conventional IDs may be created.

Once Contacts and Contact IDs are defined, they may then be selected to make up the members of the individual Call Hot Lists.

Once a Hot List is populated with Contacts, the Hot List may be selected for use from the appropriate Conventional or Trunking Personality. Personalities and their Hot Lists then apply to their assigned Radio Channels.

Creating Call List Contacts and Contact Call IDs See This Tutorial Segment

Be aware that the UCL allows each Contact that you create, to contain multiple Contact IDs.

When creating a contact within the UCL, the first element to define is the “radio-user recognizable” Contact Name. Note that Call IDs are based-on the two standard Communication Types: Trunking and Conventional. Call IDs are further defined based-on Communication Protocol Types, for example Trunking ASTRO 25 or Type II, and Conventional ASTRO or Non-ASTRO.

Also note that Call ID’s can be of the Standard Call ID type or of the Customized Call ID type. For a Standard type Call ID you are selecting a previously-defined CPS Trunking System. When selecting the appropriate Trunking System the Wide Area Network ID and the System ID values are pulled in from the selected Trunking System; therefore, these values are not changeable in the UCL screen.

Once the desired Trunking System is selected, you are then able to enter the Unit ID of the radio that is targeted for this ASTRO 25 communication.

When creating a Custom Call ID, first select “Customized” from the System Select field. This “Customized” selection allows you to define a Custom Wide Area Network ID, and a Custom System ID. And again as the final step, enter the Unit ID of the radio that is targeted for this ASTRO 25 communication.

Note that the produced Call ID value, in either the Standard or the Custom case, is created by the combination of the Wide Area Network ID, the System ID, and the Unit ID

Creating Hot Lists See This Tutorial Segment

Once Contacts and Contact IDs are created, they may then be selected when building a Hot List.

When building Hot Lists, other than the Phone Hot List, you must keep in mind that Hot Lists are created for specific radio channels. Therefore you must first decide the Protocol Type and the Communication Type of the Hot List to be created. The Communication Types Include “Trunking” and “Conventional”. The Protocol Types include: ASTRO 25, Type II, ASTRO, and MDC.  Once these Hot List design decisions have been made, creating the Hot List is a simple process.

The first element of the Hot List to define is the Hot List Name. Keep in mind that this name, will need to be a radio-user recognizable name.

To start building this Hot List, select its first Contact, and then select the Call ID from that Contact. Use the Multiple Record Toolbar to add additional Contact Records to the Hot List. Again, first select the Contact, and then Select the appropriate Call ID. And again, first select the Contact, and then Select the appropriate Call ID. And do note that leaving blank records within a Hot List, allows the radio-user to add the same number of additional Contacts to the Hot List when needed.

Selecting a Hot List for a Personality See This Tutorial Segment

Once the Hot Lists have been created, they are easily selected for use with specific Personalities.

When selecting a Hot List for a Trunking Personality, your selection is determined by the Protocol Type of the personality. When a Personality’s Protocol type is Type II from the Personality’s Call and Page Page, you will be selecting a Type II Hot List from the Hot List selection field. And when a Personality’s System Protocol type is ASTRO 25, the ASTRO 25 Hot List is also selected from the same Call and Page Page’s Hot List selection field.

When selecting a Hot List for a Conventional Personality, again your selection is determined by the Protocol or System Type of the personality. Therefore when a Personality’s System type is ASTRO, from the ASTRO Call Page, you will be selecting the ASTRO Hot List, again from the Hot List selection field. And when a Personality’s System type is Non-ASTRO, from the Non-ASTRO Call Page, you will be selecting the Non-ASTRO Hot List, once again from the Hot List selection field.

Radio-User Call List Editing See This Tutorial Segment

Once the Hot Lists have been assigned to Personalities, each Personality with its specifically-assigned Hot List may then apply to Radio Channels.

The Call List Configuration's Call List Wide features determine radio-user access to editing the UCL, and to editing the radio’s Call Hot Lists.

Radio-user access to these UCL and Call Hot List editing abilities is available through the CPS-programmed “Contacts” button-press, or the CPS-programmed “Contacts” menu selection; therefore, be sure to program these radio-user access points.

This concludes the CPS tutorial on the Unified Call List Feature. For more detailed information please refer to the CPS online help system.
